Mirror and window issues

Hi all, first post here.

I have a couple of issues with my drivers door mirror and window, and I'd appreciate any suggestions.

I have a 2003 ML 350 D.

The issues are:

(1) the mirror, when you retract it, does not stop and instead bangs off the door 4 or 5 times before coming to a stop.

(2) the window won't go up or down and slides down a few centimeters (over a few hours) when you put it up manually (ie with your hands not a handle!). The day that the window problem started there was a crunching sound (similar to stepping on broken glass) when I tried to put the window down.

I don't know if these problems are related, because the mirror has been like that for at least 2 years, while the window problem is new.

Many thanks.

Window issues

You need a new window regulator. When I tried to put the window down, I heard the crunching sound (similar to stepping on broken glass). Apparantly there are coils that get wound up and the glass crunches against it. Main dealer replaced regulator . Cost incl fitting £250. You must buy regulator from MB Main Dealer.

Those regulators are common issue on E class. You will find several pictorials in W210 section what might give you some ideas what to look for.
Bottom line, on E the part that commonly breaks can be bought for 7 to 9 dollars. No need to shave hundreds for new regulator.
