The CL is the equivalent of an S-class coupe and will surely prove massively expensive to run and maintain. In addition, the model you're looking at has severely obsolete styling when compared to the current version.
IMHO all S-class should go directly from their original owner that purchased them new to the scrapyard, as no one else can afford them. In their elevated price category, they are simply the toy of the moment and nothing about them will become "classic," except the few that make it to new owners that understand the cost of ownership, which remains high despite a seeming bargain entry price.
The CLK is the equivalent of a C-class coupe and its styling is more current for sure (just discontinued last year), as will be the electronics, i.e. telephone and NAV. Hardly anyone is going to be happy with these installations in cars prior to 2005, as they're now really obsolete. IMHO the W209 CLK will prove popular for many years to come.
