Noobie here Help!!!!
Hello , following instruction by introducing my self.
I own 2 Benz a 1996 C220 and I have recently added a 1998 ML320.
This site has been very helpful for me over the past and even recently when I purchased the ML.
After purchasing the ML and driving it home which was a 300 mile trip I quickly discovered it had some issues mainly when you put your foot into it would lose power not accelerate.
After traveling 60 miles to home we got a hotel room, it was Sunday and decided to stay near where we purchased it in case we needed to undo the deal. After getting checked in I googled my issue and was lead again here to a thread on MAF, which made me feel better about the issue .
The next morning I took the truck in and had it coded at a local parts store.
I had 9 code 7 of which were misfires, 1 Oxygen sensor and the last one tank pressure. Convinced it wasn't a major issue we struggled the truck home.
Once home I discovered another issue the ignition didn't alway like the key. The Key does have some were on it after being stranded to the point I call a lock smith all of which said they wouldn't touch a Benz I was left with only the nearest Benz dealer , they were very helpful in giving me advise that worked in getting the key to work, but it would appear that either the key is warn down or the cylinder or key lock ring needs to be replaced.
Following the advice of my parts store I started with replacing the spark plugs,and cleaning the MAF and again this site proved very valuable in getting that done, there was improvement but it was still misfiring and I was getting no other codes other than miss firing. The parts store recommended a local repair shop that specialized in Benz's and BMW's I took the truck over to him the guy was great he had a proper code reader he told me to still replace the MAF and replace the wires. So I ordered in a new set of wires and a MAF from Amazon. The parts came in yesterday we continued to drive the truck and it's performance seemed to improve, however on a couple of occasions it acted like it needed a jump, I chalked that up to the fact the ground cable was loose and the bolts for it needed to be replaced . however the only way we were able to actually get it started was to manipulate the security buttons on the key.
After replacing the MAF and wires the truck seemed to have over come it's lack of power, however I did get a ruff idle and a code so I took it to the parts store for a code it came back that cylinders 1-3 were miss firing and they recommended I check to make sure I didn't cross any of the wires. When I got back and checked it I did have cylinder 2 wires crossed I disconnected the ground from the battery and reconnected the wires, now we got to where I am now. The truck would start but turn right off just as quick as it started. after struggling with this I ran the battery down so I put it on the charger and search here where I came upon a thread by someone who's truck would die after five minute of running and in one post someone recommended to them to reset the computer by completely disconnecting the battery and placing the key in the number 2 position which in the end for her was what the dealer did to solve their problem, this of course did not solve mine finally I removed the battery took it to my parts store along with the ground cable to repair it, they put a full charge on it as we watched the battery test the tech thought everything was looking good in fact before the test was done he said the battery is fine , but when the test completed the tester coded bad! I went home reinstalled it , it had no problem turning over the engine but again the truck turns off as quickly as it starts ... Help!!!!
So there is the complete history of events can anyone give me some sound advise on what I do next?
