2007 C280 Engine replacement

I have recently purchased a 2007 C280 RWD that needs an engine. (current one has a hole in the block).
I have a few questions I need help with:

1-Can i use the 4matic engine in a RDW car or do I have to find a RWD C280?
2-What years will fit the 2007 C280.
3- Any ideas on where to find one at a reasonable price?
4- Is there anything trciky I should know about swapping the engines when I do it? ( I am backyard mechanic at best but have done a few engine swaps on some much easier and basic American cars)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I hope you knew that the engine was shot before you got the car. How exactly did a hole get into the block of a 3 year old car? If the rest of the car is beat up and a mess, then just part it out. It isn't worth putting that kind of money into a car that isn't worth much to begin with.

Hi larlam,
you should realsie that swapping the physical engine block is the least of the job! The electronics will be a major hassle! I suggest you look for an engine and transmission and all the electronics and wiring which goes with them.
You have to get the ECU (Engine Control Unit) box, the unit that the key goes into, the wiring between them, and the transmission lelectronics are they are all coded to work together, and won't work separately. Then there is the ESP (Electronic Stability Protection) module, which also needs to know what engine it has to work with (weight, power, torque etc) so that it can control the car in extremis.
I think the previous advice about using it for a parts car is sensible.
good luck
