oil leak

Hi... preparing to do some work on my girlfriends 98 ml320. I have lots of car repair experience, but none on Mercedes. She had a printout done at the dealership of things that needed repair. One of the things was a $230.00 price to replace the the front oil filter seal. Any help would be much appreciated as I do not have a repair manual for this car.

MB calls her car a W163 and there is a forum devoted to those. Scroll down from here until you see Vans/SUVs/Trucks/Others and you will see it. Then try the search function limiting it to that W163 forum and you should find at least one thread discussing that. Welcome and good luck.

Make sure it's that leak. Mine was leaking and all of a sudden I had a puddle under my car after just having an EXPENSIVE oil change. It was a little rectangular gasket that cracks all the time then just gives out, 4 dollar part., I believe the part number is 1130m4lvz, It's as clean as a whistle now. 2 weeks after that happen a power steering pump hose came off.Fluid everywhere, but this was just a matter of a clamp. I believe this hard winter has made the fluid thick and the pressure just makes it that much harder. Hope that helps alittle. The little rectangular gasket is behind all the belts. I think it took my husband about 1 1/2 hours to do it. With no instruction.
