81 240d hard starting after warmed up (FRUSTRATING!)
Hello! I've been driving a 240d (W123) for about 3 years now. I love her like my wife. She goes by "honeydoodle" as the kids have named her.
For the last year or so, it fires up normally when cold . . .no problem. I'll walk into the garage at 30 degrees in the morning and it fires right up first crank. Gets up to temp just fine, plenty of power (well you know, for a 240d anyway haha). I can park at the grocery store and come out 10 minutes later and boom, it's a pain in the butt to start! Taking 3 times to crank, etc. It'll always eventually start, but it's kinda embarrassing when people start walking over to try and help you, feeling sorry for you . . .I'd rather be that guy helping them!!
Here is the list of recent maintenance:
1. new fuel filters (500 miles ago)
2. all new fuel line from the fuel tank forward (including tank screen). (3k miles ago)
3. new primer pump (500 miles ago)
4. new timing chain & tensioner (3k miles ago)
Note: problem existed before and after all maintenance above.
Does this sound like some kind of air lock? I've pumped & pumped & pumped but nothing changes . . .same ol thing.
Now say I go into the grocery store and come out an hour later. Boom, it'll fire right up. It's just that window of 1 minute to 45 minutes or so where after being driven, it takes forever to start.
Any help as to where to start would be greatly welcome!!! Running diesel #2 by they way.
