78 450 SEL 4.5 and 6.9 Exterior Differences?

I have photos of a 450 SEL for sale, but the owner is expired, and his nephew is selling it for his Auntie. She is a recent widow and he's dealing with property matters to help her. He lives 180 miles and only "serious inquiries" will get a viewing, even though the car is only 10 miles from my house. I have no address yet.

In all honesty, I would prefer not to discuss the engine size with him. It's a sweet deal either way, but if it's a 6.9, I will happily go buy it.

Are there exterior differences between the 450 SEL 4.5 and the 6.9 that would tell me from the photos which engine is under the hood of the car in these photos?

Thanks from a future Benz owner.

edited to add: I am also curious, are there easily discernible differences, interior or exterior, between the "Gray Market," Euro versions, and those manufactured for the American market?

second edit: The interior of this car is pretty hammered. I think he smoked. Are there unique characteristics to this interior, from the factory? I will drive it for a couple of years, but want any fixes to be in perfect compliance to factory. Thanks again.

There are essentially no exterior differences. All distinctions of which I am aware are found in the suspension and under the hood.

I would see if you could make an appointment to go see the car. Just tell them you are very interested and if everything checks out, you will buy it. That does not mean you can't back out.
