Battery powered electric cars are silly novelty items for daily driver use. For 1/4 mile racing, they are quite good until they discharge because they generate maximum torque as soon as the circuit is closed. Electric motors are the definition of a wide torque band. This is why trains use them.
But the real future is hydrogen powered electric cars. But the only way we can make hydrogen fuel is by burning fossil fuels. So were damned if we do and damned if we don't.
Unless we build a bunch of nuclear plants that is.... but most people are irrationally afraid of nuclear power for some reason.
