Just saw it on Chicago news (don't know why I have it in CA)
Fellow MB owner was following tall truck while on the road bump big chunk of ice fell off the roof of the truck and went through his windshield straight into driver face.
He is lucky to be alive although it will take months to determinate if he will see on his eye.
The news investigation found out there is no law obligating owners to clean the ice from vehicle roof.

Obviously following too closely anyways and thus the end result. Best lessons in life are usually the hardest learned.

At least the ice can be observed on the roofs.
Over the years I had several close calls like extended lug nut flying inches over my head coming from vehicle on next lane 50 feet in front of me. At least I had the time to avoid his wheel rolling on the center of busy freeway for about 1/2 mile.
Than it was 75% of the tire that separate from the wheel and flew 1 foot above my head. Again the MERCEDES was on next lane in front of me.
Those things make you thinking how easily our life can be changed permanently.

A few years ago a mudflap and bracket broke off a dump truck, went through a windshield, and killed a woman here.

We all tend to feel "safe" on the roads when, in actuality, this is the LEAST safe we are during the course of our day...
If you really want to be scared out of your wits, look at the safety placards on semi's and look up the numbers online...

Sheets of ice flying off big semi trucks happens all the time here. There's not much you can do to avoid it as it can sail across several lanes of traffic. I've seen several cars hit pretty hard...but I've never seen it go through a windshield like that.
