A little introduction. I just bought a grey 1975 MB 350 SLC euro edition as a project car. It came with the German registration papers from the first three owners. Until '93 it had been on the road, from then on I don't know. Probably the registration was on hold. In 2000 it was imported in the Netherlands (where I live). Since then it had several owners who neglected the car and it shows.
It had 18", 10" wide wheels which are absolutely hidious. I found some new wheels, the originals ones with practically new tires
The chairs and backseat are totally gone, as well as the carpets. But as I was going through some threads on this forum I found a link to some Koenig Wide Body 107 pics which showed a white interior with some very nice chairs.
So I went looking for them and I found them in a two tone version. Good candidates for reconditioning.
So, exterior is partly restored to its classic original look. Interior has "new" chairs, not originals but very comfy with heaters and so on
Mechanically it's pretty good but needs some love and fresh oils
Stuff I need to do:
- welding a few holes
- rust prevention
- paint job
- interior restauration
For the purists: I'm not restoring it to full original. My goal is creating a cheap luxury daily driver. Interior color will be between creme and white with wooden details which gives the car a luxurious feeling or white/grey two-tone in leather/alcantera with details in the cars body color. Probably going for the creme/white/wood version.
So far I've spent only 1750 euro's
It runs on EURO95 and LPG.
I have to spend 500 euro for an LPG injection system (2 injector rails and a KDFi) so the engine runs a bit more efficiently (read: fuels are f***ing expensive here).
1000 euro for a new paintjob
250 euro for interior paints
250 for new carpets
I can do the labour myself with some help from my brother, he has a full car workshop and a lot of experience with classics and modding euro cars to fit V8's with custom intercooled turbo systems (700HP in a classic Vauxhall; nutcase).
So, for around 4000 euro's I'll have a nice luxury daily driver.
I also have a L 408 G custom RV
