New Member Intro
Howdy, Just registered with your site which I've visited and found very helpful numerous times during the previous several years.
I'll be 60 on Friday (1/1/2010), live in La Jolla, CA and own two MBs acquiring my first one about 9 years ago and the second about 5 years ago. Number 1 is a 1980 300SD and it didn't take long for me to gladly jump on the older 300SD "Bandwagon" and grab an '82 300SD. Bought both of them from the same seller-friend and swear by them.
I've always loved German cars. My first car was a brand new '66 VW (with a sunroof, heater and am radio for an out the door price of 2 grand) when I was 16. Drove it for almost 20 years, but also supplimented it with a '72 BMW 2002 and then a '69 912 followed by a '67 912. BTW, the VW outlasted all 3 of those cars before being totalled by some kid who ran a stop sign in front of me in late 1986...
Anyhow, there's lots I could blabber on about regarding my experiences with my two TurboDiesels, but can't now (I'm still at work... heheheheheeee). I will, however, simply say that IMO they're two of the nicest autos on the road and have given me hours and miles of pleasure and driving joy! Of course, I've had to deal from time-to-time with some "stuff", but it's always been worth any inconvenience(s) and/or costs.
I'll end my intro with one of my biggest appreciations of both of these cars... Rarely do I ever have to deal with any tailgaters! I'm sure all of you diesel owners know what I'm talking about, right! I mean, virtually any time I'm on the road, whether on a short local errand cruise or out on the highway for a trip or just going to and from work, it happens... Here comes someone from behind and just as quickly, there they go fading back - waaaaaaaaaaaay back in many cases! That diesel smell is the greatest defense tool there is, along with the 70s and 80s tank-like construction and, of course, seat belts!
So, anyhow, I'm glad to be a member and Happy New Years and Happy Mercedes driving to you all! Charley B., aka, CB
