Question Persistant Sequential gear box problems

Hi all,
I have a C Class 220CDi with a sequential semi-automatic gearbox.

The car is from 2001 and I bought it in 2005 with 100,000 miles - its now done 240,000 miles - and still going ok, except... for the last 2 years I continuously get "transmission Error - visit workshop" messages which puts the car into "limp-home" mode.

This error message only ever comes up first thing in the morning when I first turn the ignition - after doing a few hundred yards, I stop in a layby, turn the engine off, re-start it and the error never comes back again that day - until the following morning when I have to repeat the same routine.

Over the last couple of years I've spent maybe a couple of thousand sterling trying to fix this - I've installed a new transmission control board , I've changed the Hydrolic transmission pump and transmission pump Relay, I've changed transmission sensors and god knows what other gobledigoock various mechanics have tried... but the dam error keeps coming up!

The stupid thing is - despite all this, its never let me down - as long as I go through the silly routine in the morning...

FYI also, the only other thing I've had to replace was the Steering Angle sensor to fix the EPS...

Does anyone have any ideas on what may be causing this "transmission Error" message? Thanks

How good are the shops you'be been taking it to? Have you ever taken it to a MB dealer for a proper diagnosis? You don't have to let a dealer do the work, just pay them about 50 quid and see what they say.
