Hello. My name is Greg, and as of today I am the owner of a 1979 Mercedes 300D.

Ok I will not set any land speed records in it, but I love having this classic car. there are 279,000 miles on the car, but the engine was just completely rebuilt.

So I am looking forward to learning about owning a classic diesel Mercedes.

Welcome I'm a newbie to this forum but not to the world of diesel benz. I had a 1980 240D stick over 270k when we parted. One suggestion frequent busy diesel stations, truck stops are typically your best bet. (I had a trucker outside Vegas take a pix of my benz fueling surrounded by big rigs.) Diesel can do funny things when it sits. Truckers will avoid bad diesel fuel this is their lively hood. If you happen to get a bad tank change your filters regularly. I got a bad tank once and kept a spare inline filter (and a bar towel) in the trunk next to the tool kit. After a couple of times I could change the filter anywhere in minutes. With the new engine you should enjoy many miles of motoring. Lastly if you are not comfortable (or are building a comfort level) working on your car yourself find a good independent mercedes mechanic (stop in and talk with a few shops) before you need service work. current owners are typically a good source also, at least they will tell you who to avoid. AVOID Mercedes Benz dealers for service at ALL costs or it might cost you all you have and then some. Enjoy your benz and have fun.
