Unhappy 95 E320SE: Heater Blower Suddenly Quit?

I had a rebuilt Denzo A/C Compressor put in my 95 E320SE, back in May. My A/C and heat worked fine for the last six months until inexplicably nothing came out of my heater last week.

The system showed no signs of sputtering or lagging. One day the heater worked, the next day nothing. We checked the outside fuse box and the fuses looked fine. However, I did eventually hear some faint sounds emanating from the A/C a few days later--just with no air.

Would the heater/ blower motor do this or is this some other electrical glitch or switch? I would just expect some warning signs to surface with the fan/ blower.

Your motor is probably fine, most likely culprit is the blower regulator, depending on what kind of car you drive*. And I agree, a failing motor can usually be expected to exhibit symptoms before quitting completely.

* No such thing as a "E320SE" (???)

I have a similar story: my 1998 C Class heaters suddenly stopped working properly: it would work at (say) blower speed 3 and above but 3 would work at expected level of speed blower speed 1 setting. Then it stops working altogether for bit, then works as normal and so on. I had a second hand regulator fitted and blowers worked 100% for about three days now the exact same problem is occurring. I can't help feeling it's not the reg. Been told it may be gunked up brushes on the motor but cannot get motor off: removed four screws and the entire unit was really loose but would not detach. What have I missed? I can't work on it in situ without becoming a contortionist!
