Benz C300 vs IS250 both brand new

Hey guys, I posted the samething on my.IS forums and I was wondering if you could give me some opinions on the C300.

I went to both dealers today and I found myself smiling after I test drove the benz C300. I love the C300s power/feel/stability. I hate the IS250s feel/stability. I know they're not sports cars, but I wished the IS250 was a bit more study like the C300. I also hated the interior of the 250, where if you opted to get the black interior, the black interior only goes up the door/window, and the rest of the car is tan or beige *roof mostly* I feel that the Mercedes was also a better built car. Coming from a VW, I loved how the doors were bit heavy, compared to the IS. I also LOVE the gauges and the little screen you get to change music and sync your IPod and what not. The only thing that concerns me is the service of the vehicle, and the lifetime of the vehicle. I really hate the little electrical problems I get with my VW, and I heard from many benz owners stating that the Benz will be the same. That really throws me off from buying a C300.

So I'm here now to ask you folks...why did you choose a Benz C300 over the competitors like the A4, IS250, Bmw 3 Series. Thank you and Aloha!

I don't know if you're married, but the question you ask is metaphorically the same as "why did you marry your wife instead of all the other women you could have married?" I suggest you scroll down the forum page until you come to the W204 forum. That is the forum for people who own the current C-class. I suspect you will find the answer you seek there.

In fact, I'd bet there is already a thread that extensively explores just that question.

For my two cents, the IS Lexus is not comparable to the W204 in any dimension, except possibly price. The ES is more akin in size and appointments (I have owned an ES) and would compare more favorably. The BMW is a more sporting car (it can be had with a manual transmission). The Audi is perhaps the most direct competitor.

You must understand the W204 is the "baby" Benz; it is Mercedes' entry level vehicle. The 3-series BMW is their bread and butter car. The IS is Lexus' effort at a 3-series BMW, not a W204 Mercedes. The A4 is Audi's bread and butter car, and is also their entry level vehicle.

Good luck.

So... you love the C300 and hate the IS250, but you're asking us which to buy?

I've driven both and personally I loved the IS250, in a lot of ways it was better than the C300. It would be a really hard decision for me if I were buying one because I am a fan of MB. Previous C-class models were awful maintenence wise, but I haven't heard much about reliability issues with the new one. With Lexus on the other hand you are basically guaranteed a perfectly reliable car.

The only two issues I have with the 250 are its looks (u-g-l-y) and the power. The engine sounds great but "its bark is worse than its bite" when you actually put your foot down. The interior of the C300 seemed a little less than what I was expecting, and the IS a little more.

As far as the appointments, the IS350 I drove had leather, cooled seats, and a nav system with backup cam. The C300 (loaner) had MB Tex. I'm not saying you can't get a nice C300, I'm just saying it all depends on the options.

I don't think that its a good idea compare C300 and IS250... it's just different cars and different styles.

Maybe Hate is the wrong word to describe it. I don't know if I will get used to the interior and feel of the IS, but coming from a VW GTI, the benz had more of the same "feel" I have with my GTI. I do dislike the paint of the Benz though..the Lexus had a better white paint than the Benz IMO. And no I am not married, I'm actually trading in my GTI so I can get a car that my mother can drive, so it needs to be automatic. If i had the choice I would opt for the new WRX hatch or a used S2K. Maybe I need to revisit my dealerships and get more pros and cons before I make a final decision. Is there a website where they compare the two cars? Not just performance but overall usage of the cars? Thank you!
