Many years ago, I saw a 560SL red-light runner get t-boned in an intersection right on the driver's door at 50+ mph. After the dust settled, the guy scooted over the console and exited the vehicle via the passenger door unassisted. Your story rekindled that memory. Bad scene, but plenty to be grateful for.

my first 16V hit while at a stop by a texter doing 50 in a 30. They are good cars.

Hate to spoil the fun on this one, but that's the plane crash set from "War of the Worlds" that was built on the Universal Backlot. The strange thing is, why did they use so many Mercedes for the crashed cars? There's two visible in your pic and another E-class in the one here:
