Post leather seatcover replacement on ML

Has anyone experience with leather seatcover replacement? I have to replace one due to heater defect in a ML. Plus having rough idle while on the dashboard the preheat symbol comes on. It is a 2004 ML 400 CDi. The preheaters are new. Dealer thought they will solve the problem. Didn´t. Feels to me like the engine is in "limp-in" mode then.
Thanks for your thoughts.
