Post Merc by LIFE

My love for mercedes started before I was even born... well sort of.

My father has a love for Mercedes and it is an understood love. One day back in 1976 he was driving his blue sedan I think a 280se when a brewery truck somehow lost control and flattened my dads Mercedes crushing the entire car to the point where not a piece of the vehicle was higher then three feet from the ground. The first paramedic declared him DOA... as did the second and third to the scene. Then a fourth gentleman that happened to be passing by decided he would check as well. This man had been a medic during the Vietnam War so he had seen some gruesome situations. He was able to get to my father and receive a mild pulse in a place I believe his ankle, where the other had not checked as they couldn't even get to his supposed body. Those that were directing traffic stopped and began to try and save my father. Three hours later he was pulled from the car and then was off to ICU where he was in a coma for several months. He came to relearned all his surgical procedures he lost the ability to do... pretty much did latter half of Vet. Med School again..and about 2 years later I was born. My father to this day attributes being alive to the seat design and possibly there ability to collapse under certain amounts of pressure. He will always have a Merc in the family and so will I. Since we have had 69 280sl, 71 280sel, 500 SEC US, and now I have a 500SEC Euro POS w/high mileage...but I love it. And soon a 1969 280se CAB 6 Cyl. Oddly enough I have an affinity for fine engineered items and these cars are a constant amazement.
