Question OEM DVD Nav vs. Alpine DVD Nav (W203P1)

I am looking to upgrade my OEM Nav/Receiver (2005 ML350 with just the Tape deck & Navi) with an Alpine unit W203P1 - which has the Nav, CD, DVD and and iPod connect.

A couple of questions:

1. Does the 2005 ML350 Non-Bose unit use Fiber Optic cables? If so, any issues with connecting this unit (non-Fiber Optic) to it?

2. Has anyone here done this and if so can share the link, tips, photos etc.

Thanks in advance!

I've done it in a W209 and think it's the best upgrade I've ever done to the car. I used a Pioneer AVIC-Z3 instead of Alpine, but the installation would be similar. In my car with fiber optics, you lose that. I also had to get a component to restore my parktronics. It was a lot of work, but well worth it...and one heck of a lot cheaper than going the MB route for Bluetooth, XM, NavTraffic, etc. Plus, the Nav is a ton better than the factory.
