I have owned several BMWs, two Volvos, and a poor man's Porsche (944s), my wife mentioned that she would like to get a small SUV to make hauling our two kids around a little easier. Being the outstanding husband I pretend to be, I found a 2002 ML55 with 101k miles on it! It's out of state, but I put down a deposit, and if all goes well, we should pick up the car this week.
As this is going to be my wife's car, it will remain stock as a rock. No cam swaps, long tube headers or computer tunes! It's probably quick enough as is anyway.
I just wanted to introduce myself, since I'll probably be using the forum for info on the repairs that cars with 100k+ miles tend to need. Hopefully it'll be a good car for our family.
I've been active on Volvospeed, and LS1tech for years.
Last chance to talk me out of it!
(or congratulate my upcoming purchase)

Congratulations and Welcome to the forums
in my signature there is a link to download owners manuals, you may want to have a look at some of the features before you pick up your ML.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I'm obviously not THAT smart or I wouldn't be considering an 8 year old MB that gets ~13mpg!

I'm buying the car not using my brain, but on emotion. Were I actually smart, I'd probably pick up a 3 or 4 year old Camry or 4cyl Accord. Bah!

It's interesting you mention computers. I started out building the fastest computers around. I took an AMD 1000 processor and overclocked it to almost 1500mhz! Built a watercooling rig out of the heater core for a Caprice Classic with 4, 90mm fans on each side push/pull setup. It was fun. Then I had a friend buy a Mustang. It was both quicker and faster than the E30 BMW 325is I had at the time. I then bought an 01 Z28. It's been my project for a little over 7 years. I've put in an iron block 6.0, Trickflow heads, custom cam, mn12 trans out of an 04 GTO with hardened output shaft and bronze shift forks. Tripple sincros instead of the double that come stock on f-bodies, moser 12 bolt rear end with 3.73s, FAST 90 with Nick Williams tb, centerforce clutch, QTP headers with off road y pipe, dual electric cutouts before a Magnaflow catback. Suspension, slicks/skinnys. It should be quick if I can ever get to the track, but it's a street car most of the time. Cruise control, ac, cd player, dynamat (generic brand) etc.
My daily driver is a 97 Volvo 850. I've put in the NA cams (slightly larger intake and duration) and upgraded the turbo from tiny, to baby. Injectors, and upsolute mail order (bah) tune. Good enough for low 14s, with a passenger and a small sub. This car is on it's second engine. I bought it 5 years ago with 150k miles on it. The odometer broke around 165k, ~4 years ago.
That's me. Can't leave well enough alone! It helps to have air tools and an ability to read.
