Unhappy worn crankshaft?

hi,i have owned my e320 cdi for 9 months.it had a minor oil leak when i purchased it(never required any top up in 9 months) but sent it to a local garage who diagnosed the crankshaft(front)oil seal needing replaced.while doing the work they discovered the crankshaft to be worn and advised me to sell the vehicle immediatley.the oil seal was replaced 4 weeks ago and i have used the car daily but now the minor oil leak has returned.is it possible to repair a worn crankshaft? i paid £2,500 for the car,is there a cost effective solution to this nightmare?? thanks in advance of any pointers.the car is a 1999 "v" reg and has 120,000 miles on the clock with sernice history to 79,000.

Yes it is possible. But how on earth did the crankshaft get worn?

I would get a second opinion on that as it could be a $2000 fix. If that's the case it might be easier to replace the whole engine!

Sounds a bit shakey to me too. Did the shop in their next breath offer to take the car off your hands? I too would get a second opinion.

I find the idea that crank got "worn", but nothing else did especially suspect. The crankshaft itself is usually last to go, meaning, it would likely be preceded by rods and/or mains going tango uniform, but you haven't mentioned anything like that.

The seal working in dirty environment wearing grove on the shaft is pretty common issue.
Years ago I had the issue on motorhome engine. Local part store had special thin sleeves that would go over the end of the shaft and gave positive fitting for the seal.
Sometimes the design gives you space to move the seal few mm, what will make it working on good part of the shaft.

thanks,i will get a second opinion.the garage didnt want to buy the car but offered me the chance to look for myself, however,i was a bit worse for wear from the night before.so declined.i have been told that the crankshaft could be "shaved" and a sleeve placed over it and "shaved" again to its original size.i think this would not be cost effective.thanks once more for your time.
