240D Won't Start
Dear MB gurus.
Was given a 78 240D with no idea what was wrong with it.
Car sat up for 12 years....176,000 miles
Would not start.
Checked glow plugs.......all good
fuel squiriting out of IP
Compression checked all 180 lbs...I know...380 to 425
Tried Eather....no luck
20 degrees BTDC
Replaced timing chain/tensioner etc, now at 5 degrees BTDC Is this within tolerance?
Compression shows 200, 300, 200, 200
Previous owner got the car with amechanics lien. Said it was knocking when he got it. Thought it might be the crank. I hear a slight consistent tick when cranking.
Suspect bent valves.
Previous owner now deceased so I do not know what he might have done to the engine.
I would really appreciate some advice.
