1993 CLK brake light has gone!

Hi All, I’m new to this site but heard some really good things about it.

My problem is I have a 2003 CLK 270cdi where the 3rd brake light has disappeared! I know this seems odd as I didn’t think they could just drop out.

Anyway, Mercedes have told me the part is A209 820 1056 and have quoted £72.45 for a replacement one. I have seen one on eBay where the part is A209 820 0956. The seller reckons it is the same part – anyone else able to confirm this as it will save me some cash or have any other ideas where to get one from?

I’ve looked at the excellent link on how to replace one on this website, so that part doesn’t worry me.

I've posted this elsewhere on this site by mistake, sorry.

Many thanks

Hi Gary

The 3rd brake light cannot ''drop out'.... If you have read the long thread about this item on the W209 forum, you will know that the assembly is held on to the trunk lid by 2 bolts, plus a clipped connector. Even if both nuts fell off, the piece would be held on by the cableform! Maybe you meant to say that the red lens broke and fell out?

Regarding the different part numbers, I had this issue when I bought one last year for my CLK, cost then £61, same part number as you were given. The guy at the MB parts desk told me that the last digits were often different when they came from different suppliers, but they were all built to the same MB specification. He could be right. I decided to stick with the genuine MB part. I think that it has been beefed up in the weakest area.
