2001 Benz S55 AMG

Hey all!

K had a couple of questions
I just looked at a couple of 2001 Mercedes S55 AMG with 91962miles to 95691miles.

Now the prices on these were between $16000 to $19000 (CAD)

Do you guys think its worth the buy?
and also look at a 2003 S55 it was $30000 (CAD) < is it really worth it?

Last question how much do guys you think a 2002 S55 with 78292miles should be?

thanks!

These are breathtakingly expensive supercars and will continue to be so in terms of maintenance requirements if not resale value. The fact the sales value of these cars has diminished, in other words, has zero effect on how expensive they will otherwise be to own. The actual price you've been quoted today is of little consequence in the whole equation.

If you're going to go for one of these you should look for a 100% score for timely dealer maintenance and should be prepared to continue this record.

lkchris totally agree with you, they are amazing cars but just wanted to know if it was worth it...

and Kajtek1 im pretty sure these brand new are in the 100,000 range im not to sure if they go all the way up to 200,000 but im pretty sure the Maybach does go and exceeds those ranges.

x2. "There's nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes." I'm not saying you can't get a good deal, but you definitely have to have the car thoroughly checked out before buying, and be prepared to shell out a lot of money if something goes wrong.

Also, if you're looking for power, I'd highly recommend getting an '03 or later. These get the supercharged V8 Kompressor (493 HP, 517 ft-lb torque), which is a huge step up from the NA V8 in the earlier years.

The owner of my dealership ordered a new S65 AMG (the 12-cylinder version) and put his "old" one up for sale. The salesman showing me the used one said the new one was $235,000. He could have been blowing smoke up my skirt to justify the $130k asking price for the "old" one, and I'm sure the new one had every bell and whistle made for the car, but a quarter-million bucks is a TON of money for any car.

In my racing years, I often heard old-timers say "Speed costs money, boy. How fast do you want to go?" You're paying about $1k a horsepower for the supercharged version if 12-15 is the premium. How fast do you want to go?
