Removing Alternator Tensioner on 300D

I'm removing the alternator on my 300DT and for the life of me I can't figure out how to loosen/remove the tensioner assembly to release the alternator. I have removed the bottom bolt, and the nut on the bolt that has the tensioner rod fixed to it. Is there one more bolt I must remove to get the tensioner free?

As it is, it seems a Catch-22 --- I can't get the top alternator bolt out with the tensioner rod in it, but I am unable to remove the tensioner rod. If I loosen it all the way, as if to remove the adjuster, the rod starts to bow and it becomes snug again.

Any help would be appreciated as I'm dead in the water till I get that out.

Thanks,

Chip

Figured it out...

Maybe this will help other newbies to the 300D maintenance!

I didn't realize that the adjusting screw and bracket came out with the alternator and that there was an additional bolt behind the one onto which the adjuster is fixed. In other words, I though that bolt was the top bolt on the alternator and I could figure out how to remove it without disengaging the adjuster.

This probably defies logic to you old pros, but to us newbies I reckon it's an easy mistake. I've seen others have had the same head scratching moments on their first turn with the alternator.

In any case, I'm back up an running with a new (reman) Bosch and it's charging like a champ.

Wheeeee!
