Remote key batteries keep going dead

Hi, I have a 2001 ML 320 and the CR 2025 batteries in the remote key don't last more than a month. Are these batteries being drained somehow? Why do I have to keep replacing them? This just started this year. Thanks, Peter.

All batteries on our ML320 are still original. Going 12-th year.
So yes, you have to have unusual drain

Are this ordinary keys or KG keys? Do you keep the keys and the car the same way as a year ago when the car is parked (keys close to the car)? Could be an issue within the key, have you had a look at the circuit board?

This is just the regular remote key that locks and unlocks the doors. The key is located in my house near the garage so it's about 20 feet (through a wall) from my car. Is there a radio transmission occurring at all times, thus draining the battery? Do I need to store the key further away from the car?

No, the regular key does not have to be placed away from the car.

If you had good batteries and those still die quickly, sounds like there would be a fault in the circuit board of the key, or some loose component making a short circuit.

Did you already mention how the other key behaves?

Where do you keep the key? Any chance that the buttons get pressed when the key is not used?
