New member - 722606 transmission problem
Great site you have here. I'm from Malaysia. Have a E280 1999 model (W210) assembled from Germany. Mileage about 175,000km. Have 2 problems:
1) For the past 2 months, transmission (722606) on 'S' at low speed sometimes engage (I think from 1st to 2nd gear) with a clunk sound. This also happens sometimes when decelerating almost to a stop. Also, sometimes rpm goes up to more than 3500 but speed does not increase. Drive is smooth (gears engaging very smoothly either accelerating or decelerating) when in 'W' mode i.e. everything seems normal. Last ATF change together with filter was about 20,000km ago. Fuel pump, fuel filter changed and new electrics kit installed (mechanic also topped up with 2 litres of ATF lost during removal of kit) last month. Mechanic checked CPU and found that it was oily and cleaned it together with the connecting hose/cable. He informed that there was an inherent design defect in MB electric kit and did some modification to the new electric kit presumably to prevent creep of oil to CPU. Installed 12 new spark plugs last week. Unfortunately, problem still there. Presently am driving in 'W' mode. Any suggestions, please?
2) Subtle vibrations felt when idling in 'N' at stop since about 4 months ago. Did not have this before. Car was practically 'vibration free' and silent in 'N' at stop - like engine was not running. What should I do?
Would appreciate your kind advise.
