How can I upgrade COMAND DVD from 2007 to 2010?

I have a 2004 e320 with a 2007 COMAND DVD Nav disc. I just purchased the 2010 DVD and the parts dept told me to just insert and it would update. Well after 30 seconds with the new disc the COMAND shut off. Now, nothing works, no audio, nav, etc. The power button does nothing.

Next steps is a diagnostic for $187, just to tell me whats wrong.

Aany ideas for a reset to the 2007 disc? I read you can disconnect the battery and that might reboot the software?

Thanks and appreciate all input.

You can try disconnecting the battery but be prepared to resynch the seats, sunroof, etc. if you do. I thought there was a special DVD made for what you're doing but I'm not sure about that. You might also try the Audio and Telematics forum, either a search for your problem, or ask your question there. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Thanks! Do I just disconnect the black cable from the battery? Will that do the trick?

My E320 is a 2001 so I don't know if our cars are the same, but there is a way to disconnect the battery remotely from the battery itself. Is yours under the rear seat as mine is? Whether your answer is yes or no, just identify either the positive or negative cable and if you disconnect either one the result should be the same.

If this is a 2004 E-class, isn't it a W211 or S211 even if it was from the US?

Can you confirm that you bought a new Navigation DVD and you inserted it to the trunk DVD drive? It must be a coincidence if the Comand at the front died when you inserted the new DVD, unless the fibre ring got lost from touching the unit or the navi processor just died from the new DVD (still a coincidence).

On a W211 I would avoid removing the battery cables if possible, the rear SAM appears to be sensitive for voltage spikes, at least one should make sure that the car is fully sleeping at the time the cable is disconnected. A safer option would be to pull relevant fuses out, the problem is to identify the correct fuses (for the head unit, the navi processor and possibly other MOST ring devices).

Disconnecting either of the battery cables makes a full reset for sure. I would suggest disconnecting the ground cable (first), less risk for a short circuit from tools to ground etc.
