Post Hard to start with less than half tank 1987 300SDL

Hey all,
I have a 1987 300SDL. 150,000 miles. Just did alot of work and this problem still exists. Replaced all filters, replaced the fuel hoses between the injectors fixed a leaking coolant hose etc etc. This one existed before I started the repairs. I dont know what is in the fuel tank that could make it VERY VERY hard to start at anything less than 1/2 a tank. Every night when it is less than 1/2 in the morning it takes a good 4 minutes of cranking to start. But anything over 1/2 tank it starts first try. Any help would be appreciated I hit the road at 3:00AM and am starting to notice neighbors lights coming on and them peeking through the window.

General rule is that the only thing that makes troubles in diesel is the air entering the fuel lines .
Check all the connectors and if you don't have clear tubing on fuel lines, you might want to install one to observe possible air bubbles.
On older car dirt on fuel tank strainer is quite possible as well.

im still pretty new to MB but with VW there is a check valve in the fuel tank. If it fails, the fuel pressure is slowly lost. So if you were to drive it all day, then park it for the night and start it up in the morning, there would be no pressure in the lines and it would take some time for the fuel pump to again pressurize the lines. But like I said.. I'm still new to MB.
