That car looks like it has gone through a lot and no one took care of it. I would not touch that car if I were you.

The car went through 29 years of life. Have seen 3 years old Chevrolet looking worse
It is hard to take advice from snobs driving $40,000 models while buying $1000 car.
If the compression test is too hard to get, other way to determinate the engine shape is acceleration test. Find the original data for 0 to 60 acceleration, drive it on remote highway and punch it.

nice interior minor crack in dash, rip in seat, arm rest broken. a/c works when it want to i noticed bumps in the road will make it work and stop working so i guess a new control unit is in store? and driver seat leans to the left bad needs a rebuild i dont think there to hard are they?

engine runs ok they claim its a fuel filter. when you take off its fine under low throttle when u get 50% and up it loses power backing off it you got more power then full throttle.

transmission shifts are hard, full throttle it will make u jump. really to hard for a mercedes. wounder if this could be a adjustment or not?

other than that trunk lid had water in it, most likely a new seal would fix it and it has minor damage in the front. (grill cracked and light cracked)

here is craigslist link
Me an a buddy had a similar problem in the exact car on a road trip to Arkansas a few years back. The car would do fine at low speeds and then when we went up a hill it barely made it. We had to gun it down the hill to get up the next hill. Turned out to be a fuel pump, so it wouldn't surprise me if this power issue is fuel related.

On the tranny I would get some quotes for a rebuilt transmission from a local mechanic that knows these cars. Its almost always cheaper to just buy a rebuilt transmission then try to fix an old one. They usually come with a warranty as well, ask a mechanic they will know. I hope you are good with your hands and don't have a problem getting greasy. You will likely always be fiddling with something. I agree about taking it to get compression tested. In fact just get a mechanic to look it over. It costs about $100 and a mechanic will tell you everything that is wrong that he thinks it worth fixing...

Good luck.

thank you for all of your responses i considered every post.

Good thing is i decided to spend the $10.57 (advanced) and get the filter. All i can say is WOW. I had no clue a simple filter could cause so many problems. The car made a 360 acceleration is fast, trans shift so smooth, and a/c works perfectly it takes awhile to kick in kinda like a delay but i ran it for about 2 hours. Heat and cold back and forth took maybe 1 min to switch i guess thats normal. Overall i am surprised in this car.

I will see if i can find 0-60 times but i had no luck the other day but then again i didnt look hard. And yes i think some of you might have money to spend on a more higher end car. But for us who dont we have to start with a good foundation and build on it. If everything goes good tomorrow i will be buying it for 1300 + 100 for a battery + 100 Tags and shell be on the road.
