To Buy Or Not To Buy??? 2000 E430

hey guys new to the site. i have an opportunity to buy a 2000 E430 with 180,000 miles or so. beautiful car ,needs tires and a windsheild. should i have second thoughts due to mileage? runs good plenty of power. i can probaly get it for 2500-2000 or so. let me know any feedback or if you were in this situation would you buy it?
if i did could i come out on top if i ever sold it with 200,000 miles?
thanks in advance..
josh

Hi Josh, you might consider asking on the W210 forum too, that's what you are considering. Briefly though, any car with 180,000 miles means you're taking a chance. I would want to see the service records. But for $2500 you could part it out and recoup your money after running it up to 200,000. 9 years/180,000 miles is only 20,000/year so in that sense the mileage is not that excessive. I think average is more like 15,000/year if it was a daily driver. Tires and windshield are not a big deal but be careful. That car has a rain sensing wiper and some aftermarket windshields are not compatible with that system. I know because I have a W210 with an aftermarket windshield (replaced by previous owner for some reason) and the rain sensing function has never worked to my level of satisfaction. Good luck.

I am not afraid to buy high mileage cars and I stick to MB brand for a good reason.
If the car looks good for $2000 you can't go wrong. Engine has over 300k life expectancy and even if the drive train blows up, you can recoup $2000 selling hood, wheels and lights alone. Do a compression test to confirm the engine condition.

Does it have service records from new? It was a good car, assuming it has been serviced. I wouldn't pay over $2000 for it, and that assumes it needs no major work and isn't beat up/repaired wreck. If it is either, then walk. Keep in mind that any vehicle over 100,000 miles is hard to resell, and something over 200,000 miles is nearly impossible to resell. It takes the right person and the right super low price, no matter how good the car actually is. These high mileage cars tend to sit for sale for a long, long time as buyers pass them by for something with lower mileage.

OK, yes it is a good deal if the engine and transmission are both good. Original owner is a good thing too because they can tell you abiut the service history. Good luck if you decide to buy it.
