I can't tell you much other than I have one and so far, so good. My instrument cluster started going bad and mine paid for a new replacement including labor. More recently, I developed a leak in a valve cover gasket and the rear power sunshade is no longer working properly. The dealer's service writer said they might cover those but they were to call the company and haven't gotten back with me yet. He also said that an inspector would probably want to look at the car before approval. I'll add to my saga as the situation evolves.

Musikmann and I are always on opposite sides of the spectrum on this issue.

I never had, never needed and never will buy an exttended warranty on anything, cars, TV's, whatever. IMO it's an insurance policy and the insurance company always wins in the long run. You hear a few folks like Musikmann where the policy has paid for itself, but I believe that the vast majority of folks never get to say that. OTOH, if you will sleep better at night and do absolutely nothing yourself on your car, then maybe you might want to consider one. However, do some serious research first. There are a whole bunch of less than up front warranty companies out there.

I am not sure how the extended warranty from MB works. The dealer treat the extended warranty different then the original 4 years 50k mile warranty, the dealer and MB USA will also stress the different (factory warranty and extended warranty). One thing for sure, the dealer will not extend the courtesy of finding out the problem unless it is clear (problem occur when you bring in the car) with the intermittent problems, it maynot happen when the car is brought in the shop, they will charge us for not find the problem. Another thing about buying extended warranty from MB, make sure you get the coverage at the time you pay for it, otherwise they will send you the contract and coverage thru the mail that maybe different than what is discuss during the purchase ( this happen to me that I was not keen at the coverage even after I recieved the contract)

My extented warranty through quality guard (Nissan) Has paid $2500 8 months ago for A rear main seal & now has paid $13000 (thousand) for an oil cooler leak on an 03 Cl600 twin turbo car. I originally paid $2400 for this policy & have not been happier. Too bad i had dealership problems (read my post about MB of Long Beach)
