I thought I was mechanically astute

My name is Curt ... KemahBenz from the Texas GulfCoast.
I was recently browsing for a used vehicle when my beloved F350 7.3 diesel sprung a water pump leak and I had no time to replace it, along with some other issues that had been waiting for attention.
I was actually standing and talking with a man who was showing me a 1994 E320.
I was not particularly out to find a Benz , it just happened that the price seemed right and from the photo the car looked ok.

284k milesand a nice appearance , sounded fine and looked clean.
Working six days a week and going to school at night (I am 55) I limped home and got a ride back.Bought it on the spot.

I have repaired million dollar cranes, hydraulic components had a machine shop , draw blueprints and love to buy tools but when I looked the hood I thought" I hope it lasts a while because if it breaks I will just push it to the side of the room and walk away.
I spent some time as a BMW bike tech, but this is a bit much for me at first glance.
I really don't have a garage to keep it in right now and need to get back to fixing my truck issues. Mostly things like a/c and front end.

This car is in fairly good shape, needs an "oil level sensor" and wonder about the wear on the belt. Just change it and relax?

So I will be reading all the forums and service info I can get.
Nice that this forum exists. I have always done my own service but I am not sure I can even fit under this car without a lift or ramps.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance

So far we have come

I laugh at how niave I was.
These cars have been so easy to keep and maintain.
Of course I was lucky with that first E320 I had for years without losing any oil , having drips or leaks and it started every time.
I miss her

This forum has been great
