First time Mercedes Owner in San Antonio, TX

Hey guys and girls. I just purchased my first of many future Mercedes. It is a 2001 CLK430 with 82,000 miles. It's actually a one owner that has always been run with Amsoil synthetic so it should be good for a few more years of my service. From my research there seems to be lots of potential problems with this model but I look at it as a challenge if anything should go wrong. Like any fine tuned machine there are necessary up-keeps and things that need work from time-to-time. I actually own a computer software consulting and development company, but I am very capable when it comes to working on automobiles. Having owned and personally serviced numerous new and used BMW's, Corvettes, and Porsche's, I feel comfortable with the CLK and feel I can pretty much handle any issues that come up providing I have the proper tools and equipment. Being an Electrical Engineer by degree, I enjoy finding and repairing electrical problems with cars which is good because my new baby keeps blowing the dash lamp/tag light fuse. So, as soon as I can get my hands on a wiring schematic for the car I'll be in heaven! Any other CLK430 owners feel free to give me advice on what to look out for or any mods that are good for this car. It really just needs a little TLC on some of the interior plastic pieces but it is in really good shape for the year and mileage. The first major thing it will get is a new set of tires and brakes and then I may look at new springs and shocks, possibly new suspension components. The front end pops when driving over large raises or dips so it may be just some worn ball-joints or control arm bushings, not sure how long MB suspension parts last. Other than that, I'm going to just take care of it as it is my daily driver and look forward to my upgrade to an actual AMG variety of a CL or CLK one day. Glad to be here and look forward to feedback!

Welcome to the family. You need to purchase a WIS for these cars. I'm sure you can find a schematic in that.

Welcome to the chat...I have an 01 CLK320 and I love it. Have had it 4 years and the only issues that have come up are the Crankshaft Position sensor and the a/c. Am also in San Antonio and have not found anyone yet to take the car to for preventive maintenance so have been doing my own so far. Unfortunately, just rear ended a car recently so am looking for a new front bumper and front hood to get my baby back in shape. Again welcome and I know you will get all kinds of satisfaction ffrom the 430.

You San Antonians, I can highly recommed a shop up in Nakoma just two blocks west of the airport. The name is European Auto Werks, ask for Chris or/and Scott and tell them that you want to stop by and check their facility. All their services and repairs are done using ORIGINAL parts and certified MB techs. The shop is squicky clean and most services are done the very same day. Their prices are very reasonable specially, when you compare them with the likes of MB of SA or Boernie. Try them for an oil change for a start and then see if you like their customer service and price, which in my opinion is second to none. P.S. you can mention my name if you like, and no I am not related to them or receive any freebies for this. Just my 2 cents...Take care
