Question using a star diagnostics

I have just purchased a star comact 3 with the intention of turning off the "SOS visit workshop" message and also to diagnose a "defective display" message on my '02 W210 wagon. Maybe also get wiring diagram of alarm and window roll up to integrate the into an aftermarket alarm. I have played around with it for a few hours and can not find any of these functions? Can anybody help with this? Thanks, John

The system may have those capabilities. The compact 3 is a cheap system, when compared to the actual star. You would need to repair/replace the display before trying any computer fixes. You need to deactivate the SOS system so the car won't run a self check on it every time it starts and cause the malfunction.

"Display Defective" SOS disable

Yes that is what my question is, I can't seem to find the option to disable the tele-aid, and don't see any fault that relate to the "defective display"?
I guess $800 is cheap, I didn't want to spend too much for this kind of thing, just don't want to pay the dealer a couple of hundred bucks to disable the SOS, and tell me a bulb is bad on the dash! Plus it should be a pretty good OBD tool for down the road. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, John

I do not subscribe to Tele-Aid but I have never had to de-activate it for any reason. What is yours doing that you feel a need to mess with it?

Tele Aid

On my '02 E it comes up as a malfunction on the info screen under the speedo every time you start the car, very annoying, one dealer said there is nothing I can do about it, except convert it over to the new digital system for about $1000, and the subscribe to the service for $200 a year, total scammers!

Mine does not do that. Luckily for me I had phone issues and the dealer upgraded my Tele-Aid to digital under my CPO warranty. Maybe they coded the car so it wouldn't show an error but I don't know that.

I was quoted $240/yr for the subscription but so far I have declined. For what this is worth, there is one more benefit to having an activated Tele-Aid. I was told that your car phone will benefit from some additional power from the car's amplifier. I don't know that this is true, but it might be worth investigating.

John for compact 3 you would need to go on line and you have to be a registered/authorize service shop to get the password/subscription, its a good system i just wonder why others would say it is a cheap system when it is not, it was actually released 2 years ago and still is the one being used by majority MB authorized service shop and dealers. To get away from having to get a key code/password you may want to go for compact 2.

$800 is cheap compared to what a real Star system costs (such as what the dealer has).
