They retained it in their DTM race cars:

Actually the mono wiper inspired quite a host of tuners back in the nineties.

Correct about the wiper settings, although I can see why it might confuse. What's the point of a sensor that you have to prompt? I'd favour one sensor position and one slow intermittent for those times when it just won't rain on the sensor.

Anyway, I vote for the opposing wiper configuration of old. No unswept triangle on either side so no need for different LHD and RHD set-ups. The area that would remain unswept with 'clap hands' wipers is full of sensors and cameras now so I hereby officially end my campaign.

Hi all,
I will add my two cents worth.
I had a W202 with the mono wiper, and it NEVER removed raindrops properly!
I changed the wiper blade, and also the blade holder, fiddled with the spring tension to get more and less pressure on the windscreen, and even had a new windscreen fitted, and it was still unsatisfactory. I had to slow down in anything more than medium rain because I couldn't see where I was going and it was bloody dangerous!
By comparison, the two wiper blades on my W203 work very well. The rain sensor copes automatically with drizzle up to down pours.
Just my 2 cents worth :-)

No separate intermittant setting on my 2001 W210 either. Just like Brian stated, rain sensor, slow and fast. Off topic but I have never been satisfied with the rain sensor function so I agree with jerk chicken there. It's just too sensitive (wipes too often) in a light rain. Back on topic, I like the monowiper concept.

I am fairly happy with my Mercedes, but I absolutly love the monowiper. My '97 doesnt have the rain sensor, but I have little trouble knowing when to turn the wiper on. I had some blade chatter when I bought the car (used), but once I replaced the blade with a genuine Mercedes blade, it worked perfectly. Best wiper I have ever had. I like the way it throws most of the water wide of the car rather than just moving it to the side of the windshield like the wipers I have been used to. Kinda makes up for the rear window regulators, brake light switch, stuck duovalve, floppy side mirrors, etc.

I love the mono-wiper. The dual wipers push water to each other. The mono-wiper is like the hand of god swiping away the rain from my view.

Also, rain-x on the rain sensor makes the thing behave perfectly.

^^^Very true comment by jsap. I had a 190E and that mono wiper would have to be one of the best parts of the car (besides from the buckle your seatbelt light).

Although I have never driven my 16V in the rain, I will activate it once in a while just to "brag" about it to a surprised passenger. It is SO cool, I love it ... it's got some power on it too!
