i am not a mercedes guy by choice, but my daily driver (outback) is ready to empty my pockets, and my porsche 914 is in pieces in the garage, along with another engine i have yet to rebuild. I am a learn as you go kinda guy, in the middle of my first engine build. (vw type 4). I needed a car to get back and fourth from work, and it turns out i got a 1991 mercedes 300t wagon. 240k on her, but is not smoking like a chiminey,
, but she was not so well cared for.
here is the scoop, what i have heard from the previous owner...
1/ car needs belt tensioner
2/ car needs clutch fan
3/ shifter needs to be in neutral for car to start
4/ drivers door lock does not turn at all from outside
5/ fuse 9 and c kill the battery overnight.
6/ some monkey installed a kenwood cd unit that is only powering 2 speakers
7/ usually need to start her two times before catching
8/ trunk shocks are usless, have to hold up by hand.
9/ some hesitation at idle.
i like to play with cars, but i cannot play as much with my daily driver. where would you start. i am already driving back and fourth to work, she loves to cruise at higher speeds. i dont seem to need fuse 9 or c to function. i figured if i start with the drivers door lock i could sole the drain on c, if i reinstall the stereo correctly, i could solve the drain on 9. if i fix the ignition it sure would be easier for the wife to drive her.
anyway, thanks for taking the time.
