Me and my 1990 300E 2.6

Hi there,

I just picked up my first Mercedes-Benz ever. I need a reasonably cheap car to tool around in for a few months and couldn't bring myself to drive a Honda Civic so settled on a W124 Merc. After looking at many cars (over 10) I found this 1990 300E 2.6 in gunmetal grey with grey leather sports seats.

The good:

A full and I mean *full* (up to last month) MB service history as the owner's father is a technican for a MB dealer in SoCal.
Two owners, the current one and his mother. The car had been in their family since new.
Everything works. The seats, the AC, the stereo, the electric steering column, the sunroof, the cruise control, the headlamp wipers, the power locks and windows all work perfectly.
Great oil pressure.
Smooth transmission, shifts smoothly and quickly.
Perfect bodywork, no scratches, accident damage or rust.
Immaculate rims from a 93 E320.

The bad:

The Check Engine light is on. I was able to, thanks to this forum, diagnose it as the O2 sensor and it is currently being repaired and then smogged (fingers crossed!).
The idle is a bit lumpy from cold.
The front track rod ends or suspension bushes are worn as there is some play in both the front wheels.
There is a crack in the passenger seat leather.
It smells quite bad from cigarettes and stale food.

I paid $1100 for it which I think is an excellent deal and I look forward to covering many miles over the next few months. I don't have any pictures yet but I'll be sure to post some once it is back from the shop.

Fingers crossed that there aren't any nasty bills lurking!

Until I get some better ones up there, I thought I'd share this next to useless photo of my new car.
