It's not so much assembly in the USA as it is use of components made here that can create quality problems.
This could simply be a move that mimics BMW, which has moved production of all its SUVs to the USA.
The (butt-ugly) GLK is a C-class based vehicle.
The factory sure isn't being utilized to capacity, as worldwide sales of the R-class are now down to about 300/month.
