Hello and man am I glad I found this forum!
I purchased my very first Benz two weeks ago. Actually, it's my very first European car. It's an 87 300e (124, 103), with just under 84k miles.
First, I want to thank my 99 Honda Accord for starting a tranny slip at 116k miles and then stalling and cutting out at 120k miles
Though I live in a very wealthy part of the country, I'm far from well off myself, so I was counting on the Honda to go over 200k miles with no problems, as they are famous for doing.
Well, I was in no way prepared to buy another car nor spend the wheelbarrow of money required to fix my little Nippon turncoat. An email cry for help to some friends was answered with this Benz. Owned by his late aunt, uncle selling it.
See, I would never have even considered a Benz had it not been for my desperate situation. In fact, my wife and I did a lot of soul searching before buying this one. We felt that buying one would be a bit pretentious, and really folks like us have no business owning a Benz (oh look at them, they're trying to act rich). But someone pointed out that an 87 is old enough to just be a cool classic and that clinched it.
I am new to this board but not to forums. I have belonged to a Honda V4 motorcycle board for 3 years, so I'm well familiar with searching and such.
In fact, this board has already been of immense help to me as I looked up info before I joined.
I have already done quite a lot of general maintenance work on this car, with some small repairs and more maintenance left to go. It would be soooo much harder without this great forum
Which brings up the fact that I am absolutely shocked at how easy this thing is to work on
I was always told that these cars were overcomplicated nightmares and that a mere oil change would require a second mortgage. As you all know, that's a crock, but again I fully believed it until I got involved with this car.
So, I'm glad to be here and I'm looking forward to the joy of being a pesky leech on all of you
I will get my sig line, avatar and such filled soon.
