European Delivery Questions

Hi, I'm trying to help my mom buy a 2010 E350. She wants to do European Delivery after hearing about my BMW ED experience this summer. I know the BMW program pretty well, but don't know anything about MB's program other than what I read on their official website. The dealer that we went to this weekend didnt seem that knowledgeable either, so I'm hoping you all can help.

First, is there a wiki or a forum dedicated to the MB ED process where people can discuss and ask ED specific question? When I was in my buying process, the wiki and forum dedicated to BMW ED over at bimmerfest really helped a ton. So I'm looking for something similar on the MB side. Also can anyone recommend a dealer in the DC Metro area that's very knowledgeable in doing ED?

In terms of pricing, MB said they discount 7% from MSRP. I know that's what BMW's website says as well, but in reality, experienced BMW dealers let you negotiate up from ED Invoice (which is roughly 7% off US Invoice) price. I paid $500 over ED Invoice for my car which was like 13.5% off US MSRP price. Does MB dealer negotiate from ED Invoice or are they firm on that 7% off US MSRP?

The pricing difference is pretty significant because my mom is also cross shopping 535xi. I recommend she doesnt buy the 5-series because its the last production year before the new 2011 F10 5-series comes out. However after an initial inquiry to my dealer, they already gave her an offer of $1000 over ED Invoice. I'm pretty sure I can work that down to $500 or lower (total price $50,xxx inc destination). She also built a similarly equipped EDP E350 4matic on mbusa.com and its $56,xxx. So if MB doesnt discount from ED MSRP, then that's a $6k difference. Will be a difficult decision for her.

Thanks

The pricing, whether purchase or lease, is between you and the dealership, not the ED program or MBUSA.

I did study the program but it was few years ago so the situation is different now.
To my knowledge ED is program coming directly from MB and I am not sure if MBUSA is involved in it at all. The whole idea is to bypass all US middle men for huge savings dealing directly with the factory and also by not paying new vehicle taxes MBUSA has to apply.
IMHO it is a great program and great opportunity to see Europe, while saving money in the process.
That is where my advise click in. If you go for the program, don't do it for money savings. Spend some more and see as much of Europe as you can. You will not regret it.
I've been to about 12 European countries and only wish I could do more.

Two people in the family did ED but they were for BMWs. Regardless of brand, it was a great experience according to them. It wasn't just the car but where they got to drive it. The biggest issue was waiting for the container ship to get it to North America after the fact. Driving the cars in their homeland gave a taste and now they had to wait for the car to get home.

I applaud our friends for discussing their ED issues in public. Very admirable.
