Can i replace a A/C condenser myself? Merc W208 CLK 1999

Well i went to get my air con gassed in my "new" 1999 CLK 230K...turns out it's another unforseen problem with the car...GREAT!

The condenser has a hole in it.

So with the condenser costing £80 roughly (from online shop) is it a job I can do myself?

I've also heard i should change the "drier"? at the same time?

All help is HUGELY appreciated, and it worth several e-beers.

Thanks,
R

It's not that bad of a job. You'll need the tool to separate the a/c lines. It's a good idea to change the drier, not an absolute necessity.

You should not have any issue swapping it out yourself, but I would also replace the drier while you are at it. Let me know if you need anything to do the job.

Hi Guys,

Thanks so much for the positve responses. I need to try and start saving money on this car!

All your help and guidance would be massively appreciated.

found this thread: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w210...placement.html

And the original poster has said he might be able to offer some help.

I'm in the UK and have found these guys supplying original MB parts cheap, they seem recommended by a UK MB forum.

CLK (C208) 2.3 CLK230 Kompressor, Petrol, Manual/Automatic, Jul 97 to Feb 03 - Car Aircon Parts, Condenser, Compressor, Radiator, Pump, receiver drier

So parts alone will be £110.

If someone could confirm that the process is almost the exact same to the ones in link showing the pic by pic instruction, or if it is different are there any other picture by picture instructions?

Lastly...rust removal...any tips!?

No problem - looks like you found a good thread there. Let us know how it goes. Also for future reference, you may get faster responses posting in the w208 sub-forum.

When you post in General you will really only get exposure when people click new posts.
