Post New 500SL Owner - Headlight anomily

I just bought a used 500sl ...Love it! The first time I went out at night I found the drivers side headlight out , with the corresponding dummy light on the dash on. No big deal I thought . I pulled the old bulb (Sylvania 9004) and scooted off to the auto parts for a new one . Oh OH same result with the new bulb. It stumped the online mechanic that advertises here....so before I donate to the local Mercedes repair ..Anyone have an Idea?

I always suggest the cheapest/simplest fix first so go buy some bulb grease (available in small packets for a buck or so) at the parts store and apply to the metal section that makes contact. I had a rear bulb that drove me crazy for a year until I did this, now I only have to re-grease when issue returns, about once a year or so. Failing that, did you check the fuse?

Hey thanks for the response . After years of owning all makes and models...I started thinking what would I normally do...DOH! check the wires. A little jiggle where they connect to the socket and Voila! good like new. I'll probably have to get a new plug. The dash light is still on but I tracked that to the rear fog light ...too many 'effin lights :-)
