Is this eBay auction for Star Diagnostic tool legit?

Now that I have my 2nd Benz, I've been thinking of buying my own Star Diagnostic tool. I see one being offered in thiseBay auction, but I'm not sure that this is the "real thing". Do these tools have a software component that gets updated frequently? If I bought one now, would it become out of date eventually or, is Star Diagnosis something that always works? What makes Star Diagnosis tools able to work with newer cars? Is it updated software only available through MB?

Have you hear about Nigeria?

Umm... yes. I think I should have worded my question differently. What I'm trying to ask is whether anyone has bought any of these programming tools on eBay. Certainly some of the auctions are not legit (especially ones for just a few hundred dollars). I know Mercedes-Benz doesn't want people selling these, but it would be nice to have one.

What is your definition for a legit unit? A genuine Star that an MB workshop or an independent shop has bought from the official source is extremely rare on ebay and even then you would not have access to their on-line servers for SCN coding and data card changes at retrofit task etc. etc.

But even a copy product can usually perform all the diagnosis tasks that the dealer would do. With SW updates you are on your own and if you google a bit you can find Star/DAS/Xentry a lot more complicated than WIS.

Note also that most devices are sold without the computer. Most devices only work fluently with specific laptops but can work with others (not easily).

I posted on a couple of MB sites asking if anyone had used this software.
Carsoft Mercedes, BMW Diagnostic, Mercedes Diagnostic, Carsoft Software, Repair Tools
I haven't got any replies. So I took a chance and ordered it. They had an end of summer sale. It was normally 1995euro on sale for 1295euro. Once I get it and play around with I'll post my findings. Hopefully they will be positive and I didn't waste my money.

It seems all my search results were about carsoft 7.4. There were a few that mentioned carsoft ultimate pro 1.0 and 2.0, but I couldn't find any threads in which someone actually used the software. Anyway, I ordered the ultimate pro 3.0. with 3 years of free updates. I didn't find anything on that.
Thanks for the suggestion.

OK, 7.4 is what I think I've seen around too. I've never heard of the Ultimate Pro series. Best of luck with it and you're welcome.

Yep, I have the 7.4 software and I'm ordering the cables/multiplexer so I'll have my findings soon from there. Hoping to clear what is (hopefully) an erroneous CEL light that came on after I cleaned my MAF and TB and the plug on the MAF worked loose. Car drives great now, however.

I was out on whether to get an OBDII scan tool as well (my car has the OBD ports) and if there was any benefit in doing such a thing, from ease, to anything I might not be thinking of. Then comes which OBD scan tool. Too bad they don't clear codes.

I purchased one of these kits for a dealer of ours, and once I supplied the IBM laptop, it works GREAT!
