Got a unfair speeding ticket ... what should I do

Few days ago I got a speeding ticket, without even speeding I was picking up parents from restaurant 12:00-01:00 ... speed limit were 45 mhl and I was driving 50 mhl for sure. and on the red light after 20-30 sec I see cop from behind and he pulls me over ... and telling me that I was driving 80 mhl ... I tried to explain it to him, but all he did is told me that I am drunk... and I am supposed to drive sober. I told him test me... and he told me you have enough problems for tonight... (I am not drinking at all for the last year) ... I wasnt alone on the road, and I wasnt first.

What do you think I can do? it's just pretty unfair to do that... I feel like an idiot

Do a search, someone just posted about this. You can fight it or go to traffic school depending on where you live. From personal experience I can tell you it will be your word against the cop, and typically the court goes with the cop.

BTW, you've been around a while, why not click the user cp link and complete your BW profile to include your vehicle and location information? It's often useful.

Good luck.

You definitely take this to court. This should be an easy case - bring your folks if you can to testify. There are a lot of books like on the nolo press "How to Fight Your Ticket and Win", chech them out they are great.

There are tips on how to get the cops notes before hand so you know what you are going up against.

After you win be sure to tell him to go to hell. Make sure you wait till you are out of earshot of the judge though

The only thing he would have on you is doing 50 in a 45. But the other stuff is just total BS. Sounds like he was the drunk one.

So exactly what were you cited for? (speeding 80mph in a 45mph zone?)

Your past record of not speeding should do the job, along with presence of your folks and their accounts on the matter. A lawsuit is also possible if your folks are willing to testify. 80 in a 45 in pretty hard to believe with your parents in the car!

Go to court and plead your case. Do not, repeat -- do not admit to exceeding the speed limit by any margin or you'll be found guilty.

They might be great, but they rarely work. What works is sitting in court, if possible, and observing the process at that particular municipality. That's how I learned how to beat mine.

...and yes, never admit the speed.

That's good advice - I suggest them both.
