Post Strut replacement cost

The front right portion of my 2000 s430 was resting lower and lower after being parked for more than 30 min. A couple days ago it was completely resting on top of the tire. It would only raise when I manually pushed the raising button on dash. I took it to the shop and they charged me $1500 to replace the strut. The said the "kit" was not a possible fix for my problem. Apparently the strut is an expensive part.(around $1300)The rest of the cost was couple hrs of labor. Did I overpay or does this sound about right for this repair?

1300 seems like a lot off a strut. Even for an air ride type on.

If you ask the same question in the W220 forum on this site, you'll find out that $1300 for the part is about right. The early W220s ('00-mid '03) are well known to have problems with the airmatic system. There was a running change in late '03 that carried through the model run (to '06) that made the system reliable and long-lived. There are various patches and so on that will repair minor problems, but your shop seemed to know about them and decided they could not be used. It sounds like you got the repair you needed for about the price people pay for it.

Chances are the other side will give up on you at some point. The rear struts do not seem to be as prone to failure.

Welcome to the forum. And welcome to the W220 owners' group. Keeping an older W220 in good running order can be an expensive proposition because there isn't a lot of DIY stuff possible except for routine maintenance. The reward is the pleasure of having a fine sedan to enjoy.
