Thanks much for your reply. The only button I could find was to reset the mileage after each fill-up... Nothing to hide the total number of milage droven, this is the number I am trying to hide:

When the transmission is in C mode (what sounds like you have W211 model) the car normally start on 2 gear, making it feel heavy.
However pushing the gas pedal past kick down switch overrides the C control and the transmission abruptly shifts to 1-st. Most likely this is what you experience.
As said keep the tranny on S unless you go on snow or ice.
