Hello & Help!

I am a first time Mb owner and just bought a 1986 190E. The car ran great after warmup but took about 4 tries to get it started. After a minute or so it would idle and run fine. Yesterday while climbing a slight grade on the way home, it chugged and stalled to a stop . It now will not run. When the coolant expansion tank was opened there was a pressure pop. The engine loses oil and maybe needs a new head gasket. Could this be the problem, losing compression, or is it fuel related? I have read other blogs and see that hotter plugs should be used to compensate for rich mixtures in older MBs. Previous owner just re-plugged with Bosch platinums multiple anodes, that might be too cool. Also fuel filters have not been checked. I would rather start replacing cheaper items than the head gasket and associated repairs. I really want to keep the car, it runs so great (when it runs). Thanks

Thanks Leapfish, I did. If you happen to have any suggestions regarding the best sparkplugs for an '86 190E I would sure appreciate it. There is some good info about not using "modern" or cooler plugs and that old MB run rich so you need to have hotter plugs to reduce flooding or stalling. Again any info is appreciated. Thanks
