Can't help you with the dipstick itself, but even factory dipsticks can always use calibration.
The way to do it is to drain the oil, fill it up with 2 quarts less than the capacity, start the engine for a minute, turn it off and measure oil level about 15 minutes later. That will be the low point. Than add 2 quarts and repeat the procedure to get max level.
The dipstick I have in our 98 E300 DT is out of calibration by a good quart. I had the light coming on with level 1/2 way between the marks. Don't know if PO changed the dipstick, but I checked it at oil change.
