OEM Dipstick help please

Does anyone out there own a Mercedes OEM engine oil dipstick tool? The particular part number I'm interested in is 120 589 07 21 00 and is for a 2004 CLK 320 with the 112.955 engine. What I need is a couple of measurements off it if I can. The local dealers here don't stock it and want $200 to order it in. I asked him how he sleeps at night...

Anyway, I have one off eBay but it's a universal and doesn't read the way the factory one does...so I need to find out how long, etc the OE stick is to properly use mine. Thanks!

Can't help you with the dipstick itself, but even factory dipsticks can always use calibration.
The way to do it is to drain the oil, fill it up with 2 quarts less than the capacity, start the engine for a minute, turn it off and measure oil level about 15 minutes later. That will be the low point. Than add 2 quarts and repeat the procedure to get max level.
The dipstick I have in our 98 E300 DT is out of calibration by a good quart. I had the light coming on with level 1/2 way between the marks. Don't know if PO changed the dipstick, but I checked it at oil change.

CG - your CLK 320 takes 8 liters for the M112 engine - same as my CLK 240

Take a look as this recent thread for some ideas - maybe make your own dipstick! My full level is 170 mm from the bottom of the sump.

That's about where mine shows! Yet if you look at WIS, it says the level should be between the 125mm and 128mm marks...so that pretty well tells you the stick I have is way too long. I'm betting the factory one either doesn't go to the bottom of the pan, or the marks start farther up the stick.

Great suggestions and help guys. Thank you.

These guys are NO GOOD. Search the forums and you will see issues I had with them and similar remarks from other members. Buy elsewhere, it's not worth the headache. Stick with autohausaz.com or one of our wonderful forum vendors, they have a long history of service to MB members.

I think that you are looking at the wrong page on the WIS. See here for your engine:

I'm just trying out something I made for less than 50c. If it works out. I'll post up some photos.
