R Series Tow hitch boat lights - HELP!

Any help is greatly appreciated. I recently installed a trailer hitch on my 2006 R500. The local dealer sold me a "cable harness" (part# 251-440-85-10) and a "Pollack" plug. It all seems to fit together nicely, but the trailer lights still do not respond. Does anyone have any suggestions? The dealer doesn't really seem to know much about it. Thank you.

Check that there's power to the plug.

This system is NOT going to work with LED trailer lights without addition of more electronics.

The cable harness is an OEM product and intergrates into the fuse box itself, so I assume I'm good there. My boat trailer is 20 years old, so it's not LED, it's old school bulbs. I agree about the power to the plug, I have doubts that the cable harness is working properly. Let's assume for a moment that there is no power to the plug - why the heck is the harness not working properly? Does the car's computer somehow have to be programmed also?

Has anyone out there ever successfully hooked up trailer lights to an R-series?

Thanks so much.

I recently installed a trailer hitch on my 2006 R500

When the MB dealer installed the hitch on my 2007 GL450 it was also necessary to install a new SAM ( Signal acquisition and actuation module) unit. I don't know if this would apply to your 2006 R500.

I spoke to the dealer again, and finally got someone who (seemed) to know about it. It is not a SAM issue, but apparently the new "module" in the wiring harness has to be "coded" by a technician in order to work. Taking it to the dealer tomorrow. Thanks to all for their feedback!!!
